I own an older version of this. I bought it in 1995. It is a 300 watt as opposed to the 225 watts this one has.

Mine has a glass lid that doubles as a 2 quart casserole. These latest models all seem to have handles. I think mine is a 4 quart.

These are absoutely the BEST slow cookers. They’re so versatile and stand up really well.

I’m not even close to being ready to buy a new one. Yes, the non-stick does scratch…all non-stick gets wrecked eventually. I would love it if they sold a model without non-stick. I dislike that stuff. One thing I wish it had is an off switch. I don’t like only being able to turn it off by unplugging it.

If these newer models are as good as the old ones, I highly recommend you consider buying this before looking at other ’sexier’ brands.

I paid around $35 for mine 13 years ago. I’d say I got more than my money’s worth.

  2. I have the smaller version and wanted the larger one for bigger meals. My husband got me this for Christmas and I am terribly disappointed. On the high setting it didnt even boil after 8 hours on. Its going back to the store and I’ll buy a different brand. So disappointed since I love the smaller older version I have.

My wife is a “Pro” with a Crock Pot that eventually burned out. I, the Husband, not knowing the difference between a Crock Pot & a Slow Cooker, purchased the West Bend 84905 5 quart “SLOW COOKER”. A MORON would have known better. It got here in record time in good condition and does fantastic as a “Slow Cooker”. I was informed later that MOST of her recipies are for a crock pot… solution was to buy her a crock pot too. The slow cooker is excellent for SLOW COOKER RECIPIES!

It is also great for reheating leftovers – it works very well. I really don’t feel all that bad though, I heard that Hilary Clinton didn’t know the difference between a TWITTER & A TWEETER and look at what kind of salary she makes.

  4. I had a West Bend Slow Cooker for over 20 years before it broke. I thought I was replcing it with one just like it, but the quality of the pot was cheap and very thin metal. It was not the quality of previous West Bend products. I returned it.
