OK… well, first of all I have NEVER owned a crock pot before. So you are getting a new owners point of view. I LOVE THIS THING! I am currently using it at this very moment with my entire house filling up with the aroma of the pot roast! First of all…. to the people who said it’s HOT …. well duhhh… no kidding! (ever hear of potholders?) Second to the ones who have returned it for not having a medium setting… well, warm is medium and YES you can override the low/high settings if you just read your instruction manual! Also, Why in the world would the lady who ended up with sludge leave a NEW machine plugged in all day when you aren’t home. I am using it for the first time and have stayed home to see how it works before I’d ever leave it on while I’m not home! You are just asking for trouble if you leave any new appliance on the first time you use it and not supervise it. As for the ill fitting lid. Mine fits fine. Yep it does rattle ever once in awhile but I remember my mother’s doing this when I was a kid too! (as a matter of fact she owns this exact same model now! and also loves hers!) To give the other people a benefit of the doubt… maybe this is a newer model that I got and the defective ones are now better??? I don’t know but I do know I love my new crock pot and can’t wait to feed my family dinner tonight!!!!! 5 Stars from me!!!*****

I purchased this pot about three months ago without realizing its major limitation – this “smart” pot is limited to four preprogrammed heat cycles, and it can’t be used to simply keep something warm. I also agree with the other reviewers that this pot also gets a little too hot on the low setting, I found this with another relatively new crock pot from GE as well. I don’t consider it dangerous, but it is annoying.
The reviewer who gave this product five stars with a “round is better”…um, well, HELLO…even if that is so, this pot is oval…either that reviewer flunked geometry, or is reviewing a different product!
While this pot hasn’t cracked or broken, I am disappointed with the lack of settings and manual override. If I could simply turn the pot to warm when I want to, it would get three or four stars. It is attractive, easy to clean and plenty big enough for my family. The lid fit is OK, but not great, again similar to the GE crock pot (which suffered a broken lid handle within the first few months of light use). My old Rival crock pot lasted nearly 15 years and had none of these limitations. Does anyone make a decent crock pot anymore?

I bought this crock pot this morning, washed it by hand, and began to cook pasta e figoli (spelling?) not even one hour into it, the lid cracked!!!!!! There were no perceivable flaws before or after my washing it, and I actually heard it crack in the other room! I was extremely disappointed, and will be returning it in the morning!!!!!!

I was out walking Izzy, our dog, when I saw a rival smart pot sitting on the curb in front of a neighbor’s house waiting for the trash truck. I picked it up and brought it home, plugged it in, and it worked great, getting nice and toasty. I couldn’t believe someone just threw it away.
I cleaned it up really well, noticed glazing crack in the insert but no big deal. Next I put in one of our favorite slow cooker recipes that I’ve made in a west bend, an old rival, and my breville slow cooker I have now.
Within two and half hours on low there was liquid all over the counter from the lid letting steam escape, my liquid was at a full boil, and my whole garlic cloves were already soft! this is a six hour recipe, thank goodness we didn’t leave. The handle of the lid was so blazing hot I burned my fingers trying to take it off.
I got what I paid for, it belonged in the trash and that is where it is going as soon as it’s cool enough to handle.

I use this crockpot only for making liquid soap so I can’t speak to it’s food-cooking capabilities. Having said that, it seems to keep the temperature constant and it operates without any problems. I would recommend it.
